I am Chair and Associate Professor of English at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta (Canada), where I am finishing my first book — What Can You Do Alone? Lyric Sociality & the Global Depression, solicited by Harvard UP — and working on my second, Poetry, the Jealous Art. I edited 21 Poems by George Oppen (New Directions, 2017) and with Richard Sieburth, I’m working on Tempus Tacendi: The Venice Notebooks by Ezra Pound & Olga Rudge (New Directions, forthcoming). I have degrees from Queen’s University (Canada), the University of Cambridge and New York University, where I defended my doctoral dissertation, In the Crowd Moving Opposite: Lyric Modernism & the Idea of Sociality, in May 2019.

I teach literature courses that emphasize the transnational development of American Literature and Modernism’s global reach. I’ve offered focused seminars on Global Modernisms, “Depression(s),” 20thC Poetry, Autofiction/Creative Nonfiction, “the Du Bois Era,” and Contemporary Black Writing, as well as surveys of America Literature (pre-1900 and 1900-present) and Intro to Literature. Before Lethbridge, I taught at NYU, SUNY-Fashion Institute, Stern College for Women, and thru CUNY’s College Now program at the Lehman College Campus in the Bronx — an outreach program offering free A.P. credits to public high school juniors and seniors.
